Street Shoe Trends - 8/1/11
Street styles have continued to evolve over the last few years and with an increase in popularity for the skate, hip hop and urban styles the choices are now seemingly endless. The world just gets more and more informal and although many of us have to wear smart shoes to work, the rest of our lives are spent wearing street shoes. This includes trainers, plimsolls and skate shoes.
Urban trainers are often inspired by retro looks and the current vintage era is the 80`s. The 80`s was where we first started seeing high top trainers and also when colours and designs were bold and bright.
One of the most popular current styles in urban trainers are high tops. Most synonymous with brands such as Converse and originally designed for basketball players, high tops are now consistently seen on the feet of the fashion elite. Designs have somewhat moved away from simple canvas basketball style and include bright coloured or even gold or silver fabric designs. High tops look great with skinny jeans, chinos and even shorts. The great thing about these shoes is that you have the option of having them up or down depending on your outfit. This versatility is part of their current success.
Mid tops are also big this year and are often worn in just a striking black or one tone design. Mid tops look great with tapered jeans or baggy trousers, for a sporty street look.
Plimsolls are going nowhere fast and are the perfect summer street shoe style. Plimsolls can be worn on the beach or down the pub. They look great with shorts, chinos or with skinny jeans. Don`t be afraid to roll your jeans or chinos up to expose a bit of ankle, this can really show off your plimsolls. Also bright colours are big at the moment and the great thing about plimsolls is that they come in every colour imaginable. The best ones are all one colour and in a bright primary shade such as blue or red. Coming fast behind plimsolls are espadrilles that are seen increasingly on the streets and are not just for the beach this time around.
Skate shoes are ever popular and more and more companies seem to be bringing out their own range. Nothing ever compares to the original brands of the skate shoe industry and DC skate shoes are consistently both functional and fashionable footwear items.
